Job Description

Design & Sales Consultant - Common Vision

Location - Hamden, CT

Industry - Residential Remodeling

Compensation - $60,000-$80,000 + commission

Do you have a builder's brain and a salesperson's heart?

At Common Vision, we've spent 40 years earning the trust of Connecticut homeowners—so much so that over 90% of our business comes from referrals and past clients. We're looking for a Design & Sales Consultant who can do it all: assess structural feasibility on-site, guide clients through complex remodeling decisions, estimate with accuracy, and sell with integrity.

If you have deep residential remodeling experience and a passion for guiding homeowners through transformative projects—without ever cold-calling—we want to hear from you.

Since 1986, Common Vision has been the premier Design-Build remodeling firm in the Greater New Haven area. We specialize in transforming residential spaces through thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to our clients. From kitchens and baths to whole-home renovations and additions, we guide homeowners through every stage of the process—from initial concept to final walkthrough.

Led by owner Cy Miller, our team operates with honesty, accountability, and a genuine care for each other and our clients. We believe in "no finger-pointing," learning from mistakes, and growing together.

Common Vision isn't just our name—it's our philosophy.

Summary of Responsibilities

In this role, you'll combine deep remodeling knowledge with consultative sales expertise—assessing project feasibility on-site, creating accurate estimates, guiding design decisions, and preparing projects for construction—all while delivering the exceptional client experience our referral-driven reputation is built on.

What You'll Do

  • Guide homeowners through the full remodeling journey—from first consultation to project startup
  • Assess project feasibility on-site – identify structural obstacles, load-bearing walls, plumbing, electrical, and code requirements without a designer present
  • Qualify leads and conduct site visits to develop preliminary scope and budget expectations
  • Collaborate with designers to develop conceptual designs, specifications, and accurate estimates
  • Lead client meetings—present designs, review budgets, and guide selections with confidence
  • Prepare projects for construction—coordinate permits, documentation, and job binders
  • Partner with production during job startup and remain a trusted resource throughout construction
  • Manage active projects at various stages while staying organized and responsive
  • Build lasting relationships—most of our business comes from referrals, so client trust is everything

What You'll Bring

  • 3–5 years in residential remodeling.
  • Ability to assess structural feasibility on-site – understand what can and can't be done with walls, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Strong construction knowledge – framing, drywall, roofing, mechanicals, building codes, and permitting
  • Sales experience – consultative selling, closing high-end remodeling projects, and generating referrals
  • Collaborative mindset—you thrive on teamwork
  • Client-first attitude with excellent communication
  • Proficiency with MS Office; experience with Buildertrend, Sage 100, or Chief Architect is a plus

Compensation

  • $60,000-$80,000 + commission
  • 2 weeks vacation + all holidays
  • 401(k) with company contribution (after 90 days)
  • Health insurance – 60% company-covered
  • Life insurance
  • Vehicle stipend and phone stipend
  • Laptop, computer, and tablet provided
  • Hybrid work flexibility

How to Apply

  • Provide your most updated resume

We have a formal recruiting process and have a relationship with Zephyr Connects LLC, whom we use for the screening and hiring process. If you are selected for the next step you will get instructions from Svitlana Diak within 3 days of your submission. Everyone will be contacted.
